Company/Organization: The Future Project
Number of employees: 12
Tell us a little bit about your company/org. How are you disrupting your industry? The Future Project is a new national movement that is challenging some of the most ingrained patterns and age old assumptions about what school, service, and growing up can and should be all about. We are calling to action the millions of young Americans out there who realize that there is something terribly amiss in our schools – despite the best efforts of teachers, and educators. But they don’t just want to serve. They want to innovate. They want to take whatever their passions are, and use them to inspire someone else to dream a little bigger, and to do something truly original. Something imaginative that changes the world. But school at the moment, is not a place where passion and inspiration are the norms. There is a great dichotomy drawn between what happens at school and what is firing you up in your heart. We are disrupting that by channeling this immense generational energy into schools where our volunteer Future Corps partners with students and over the course of a year, build innovative ventures that challenge both parties to do the impossible. Meanwhile, we also dispatch full-time Dream Directors into our partner schools where they serve as “in-house entrepreneurs,” drumming up change that no one before even knew was possible.
What’s next for your company/organization? After a full year in three cities – New York, New Haven, and D.C. – with more than 600 people involved as Future Coaches or Future Fellows (that’s what we call the students who are part of our program), we are preparing to take our model to a new level with our embedded entrepreneur approach, expand within New York in particular, and begin to build our website www.dream.org.
