Tell us a little bit about your company/org. How are you disrupting your industry?
Passion Projects is a unique and dynamic collective of marketers, brand lovers and conversation starters. We are creatively strategic and well-connected, specializing in cause marketing and social commerce brands and initiatives. We enjoy working with start ups and multinational brands alike on big ideas, sustainable solutions, and effective communication strategies. We are forward thinking, nimble and multifaceted. We treat each individual project/brand as our personal passion. We also started a platform called Design Africa, launched in May at Soho House, NYC. The Design Africa program was established to raise awareness and elevate the perception of design from the continent. From fashion and music to art and design, the program seeks to ignite conversations, highlight successes and uncover challenges and ultimate solutions to developing trade with African countries. The Aim is two fold: 1. To act as a catalyst and forum for conversation to help break the perception/ethnographic stereotypes of design, works of art and products from Africa. The intention is to both highlight contemporary artists, brands, and designers and use first-hand knowledge working experiences, market/consumer feedback and challenges faced in production, customer education, and media/industry support. 2. To help facilitate trade. There is a massive opportunity to harness craftsmanship in Africa to become a viable resource for high-end contemporary products. The end goal is to raise awareness of the quality of design and facilitate trade, whereby a “made in Ghana” or ” made in Kenya” label, for example, is as revered as a “made in France” or Italy.
What’s next for your company/organization?
Design Africa London in Oct and a new client called Shinola, which is working to bring manufacturing back to the US, starting with watches. They have a manufacturing base in Detroit in partnership with the design school CCS. Very cool stuff, very cool place, very smart and cool people.
If you could study anything at SVA, what would you study?
Don’t think it is a course at SVA but would love a masters in Supply Chain Management (in my spare time)
What do you love about New York?
It’s my home (born and bred), so I love it and hate it but mostly love it. You cannot beat NY in June when the sun is out and you can walk EVERYWHERE, run into friends and sometimes freaks of nature. It’s a melting pot like no other. The pace is infectious – for those who like to live their lives on “10” at all times.
Who are your heroes in real life?
Steve Jobs, my Mom and my friends who never cease to amaze me with their passion and creativity.
What is your motto?
Walk the talk or stop talking.
