On May 30th, here at the newly built out Products of Design Department space, we hosted A State of Becoming: Physical and Digital Experience, an installment of IDSA NYC’s Inspiration Lounge series. For the evening, we opened our doors to New York City's design community to tour the department and hear presentations from two design legends in their own right, Tucker Viemeister and GoldRun's Vivian Rosenthal.
The event transitioned from an introduction by Department Chair Allan Chochinov and IDSA NYC President Adam Wendel to brief presentations from both speakers. Tucker spoke about his career's trajectory, beginning with his namesake, 'the car of tomorrow', becoming a founding member of Smart Design and a contributor to OXO's influential product design, to the current moment in which he must grapple with the digital.
Vivian followed by detailing her background as an architect-cum-experience designer, using her knowledge in crafting architectural experiences to inform her current work creating augmented reality platforms for her clients' brands.
Rounding off the night, the audience presented a slew of pertinent questions to our speakers and sparked a lively debate. Tucker was especially spritely in his questioning of Vivian and the subversive approach she takes in her work.
Products of Design was thrilled to generate a fun engaging, evening for the design community to come connect, learn, enjoy and investigate the ever-changing face of design.
