To start off the day for the third annual MFA Products of Design Thesis Presentations—aptly named "T3IRD"—program chair Allan Chochinov welcomes guests, families, and simulcast viewers, discusses the unique moment that design is in right now, and talks about "how the number 3 is special across all human endeavor." Enjoy!

We need designers to conjure the worlds of tomorrow so that we can see them in advance, and make decisions about whether we want to build them, to break them, or to bend them.

"If design is to have any effect on stemming everything from the tide of internet startups’ 'rush to monopoly' to technology’s algorithmic assault on journalism, to its assault on the stock market, to its assault on free and democratic thinking, we’ve got to have designers with bravery, audacity, and a keen sense of their individual power."
