The Opportunity
Self-care is a massive market, with bath and shower rituals forming a key market niche. But the shower chair—which allows for ultimate shower relaxation—is largely considered a product for those with mobility issues, and has barely evolved beyond its most basic utilitarian design.
Why not change that?
Market Research
Gao and Pillai researched their user demographic to better understand rituals and spending around showering and self-care. They then completed an audit of the existing shower chairs on the market.
As you’ll see below, the majority of existing options are highly clinical and utilitarian, with CMF primarily limited to white plastic and natural teak. Gao and Pillai chose to narrow in on the lower-right quadrant of the deluxe shower chair market, while steering away from a built-in shelf.
Solution
Gao and Pillai closely considered the product dimensions, being sure to design for various body types while creating a chair that would fit in most showers. They also considered drainage, material, and support for various movements while sitting, such as washing different parts of your body. The ergonomic seat invites you to sink in and fully relax your body, enriching the full, sensory experience.
They modeled and 3D-printed a variety of forms before choosing their final selection.
Product Variations
The Cloud Shower Chair is available in three colors, designed to appeal to different consumers and their respective bathroom interiors. The white is a classic, clean, and simple look; the green brings a sense of nature and calm; and the nude exudes a unique warmth.
Branding
The Nimbus logo and wordmark are meant to connote calm, relaxation, and care. The tagline, ”Elevate Your Rituals,” indicates the brand’s position in a high-end category, catering to an affluent demographic.
The three brand colors were chosen for feeling organic, serene, restorative, airy, and fresh, while the secondary font is subtle and soft.
Marketing & Sales Channels
The Cloud Shower Chair will be marketed via targeted social ads, OOH campaigns, and ads on relevant websites and webpages. It will also be sold on existing furniture websites such as Arhaus.
