Guest Lecture: Cameron Tonkinwise
On April 17th, Products of Design was pleased to host an annual lecture by Cameron Tonkinwise, celebrated design studies scholar and Professor of Interdisciplinary Design at the University of Technology Sydney. Widely regarded as one of speculative and critical design’s fiercest and most insightful critics, Cameron’s fifth talk at SVA is a philosophical inquiry into what he calls “Sacrificing Design” and in the sacrifice in saying no.
Guest Lecture: Layla-Joy Williams, the Founder and CEO of IYLIA
Last month we were thrilled to host Layla-Joy Williams, the Founder and CEO of IYLIA. Layla-Joy shares her inspiring personal journey as a footwear designer—from starting out as a student at Pratt Institute to her first jobs in the fashion industry to launching her own company.

VIDEO: Ari Melenciano Lecture at Products of Design
On December 11th, the extraordinary Ari Melenciano visited Products of Design to share her body of work, her vision, and her advocacy…and it was an incredible lecture. Ari is the founder and producer of Afrotectopia, the New Media Arts, Culture and Technology Festival. In addition, she is the founder and director of Publics.School—a platform exploring experimental methods to disseminate social justice issues, working on the first project called Justice Factory, an interactive data visualization platform for activists. Beyond these initiatives, Ari also shared her line of experimental "neo-retro" digital analog cameras, Ojo Oro; AricianoTV, an online video tutorial channel on creative coding; and a VJ/DJ (in the duo, GVÖ), with a residency in Brooklyn, NYC. Guest Lecture: Ti Chang, Co-founder and Vice President of Design of CRAVE
On March 20th, Products of Design welcomed Ti Chang, the co-founder and VP of Design of CRAVE, a San Francisco-based company specializing in discreet and luxury sex toys. Ti is best known for the design of the vibrator necklace Vesper, one of the most celebrated and innovative sex toys disrupting the adult toy industry and changing the conversation around sex.
A Conversation With Jessica Helfand
Products of Design welcomed Jessica Helfand—co-founder of Design Observer and Yale Lecturer in Design and Management—as a guest speaker this past Thursday. Rather than lecturing from a podium, she gave symposium-style comments on the state of design, followed by an informal and wide ranging question and answer session, as well as a reading from her new book, Design: The Invention of Desire.
