We were thrilled to welcome our new class of 2021, our returning class of 2020, and all of our amazing faculty to last week’s Orientation Reception! Each of the faculty presented a few minutes about themselves and their course, and then it was celebration time to meet new people, catch up with old friends, and enjoy some amazing food from City Bakery!
ADAPTIVE DWELLERS launches at Wanted Design NYCxDESIGN 2019
For the seventh annual showcase at Wanted Design, and as part of NYCxDesign 2019, students of SVA’s MFA in Products of Design present Adaptive Dwellers, an interactive installation that explores the role of design in humanity’s adaption in a world devastated by climate change.
Announcing 6IXTH: MFA Products of Design Thesis Presentations are May 14th!
We invite you to attend the Masters Thesis showcase presentations of the 2019 graduating class of the MFA in Products of Design program on Tuesday, May 14th at the SVA Theatre from 11am - 5:30pm. Twenty graduating masters students will each present their year-long thesis work, comprised of research, artifacts, services, experiences, and platforms.
THE DATALOGUE Debuts at Wanted Design NYCxDESIGN 2018!
The students have created The Datalogue, a four-part stationary machine which emulates the systems and unmasks the consequences behind data collection. Though data mining is an invisible procedure that occurs through countless digital channels, the exhibition transforms it into a visible, tangible process.
Racket + Hackathon = Rackethon! A Workshop Around Menstrual Health
On the afternoon of Saturday, September 16, the students of the MFA Products of Design department conducted a hackathon for RACKET—a grass-roots organization engaged in work around the topic of menstrual health. After a comprehensive briefing from Racket founders Caroline Angell and Margo Seibert, participants dove into four focus areas. Reimagining the kit, changing the conversation around mentruation, social media strategy, and policy.

Racket: Products of Design Helps Out With Menstrual Heath Initiative
On Sunday, the MFA Products of Design helped out the amazing grass-roots organization Racket by providing space for one of their epic "packaging" sessions. In only three hours, a cadre of volunteers met at the department and packed kits of over 25,000 products—a record according to Racket founders Margo Seibert and Caroline Angell.
TRIAGE: Launches at Wanted Design for NYCxDESIGN 2017!
Students of SVA’s MFA in Products of Design present TRIAGE, an interactive exhibition that reframes contemporary urgencies through the lens of design. The work is part of the city-wide NYCxDesign celebration. We live in uncertain times, faced with a political climate where institutions that offer solutions to complex challenges are under threat, systematically undermined, and dismantled. TRIAGE consists of six roving design interactions that assess the socio-political priorities of visitors to the design festival. At the start of the exhibition, visitors receive a TRIAGE CARD that tracks and gradually compiles their unique profile.
