Designers don’t design things. They design consequences.
Complex challenges require many design disciplines—not just one. Located in New York City, the SVA Products of Design master’s program is STEM-Certified and provides the tools and methodologies from all the key design fields. We accept students with a bachelor’s degree, including those who did not previously study design.
We empower SVA MFA design graduates with the leadership abilities they need to solve global problems and create lasting social change. Here’s how:
1. We train “Multilingual Designers”.
We teach physical product design, digital product design, social impact design, service, experience, and business…all at the same time. We are the most multi-design-disciplinary program anywhere. → View the curriculum
2. We design for MoMA.
Products of Design has an exclusive partnership—now in its 11th year!—to design products for the Museum of Modern Art’s wholesale product development division. Students prototype and pitch to MoMA both years of the program. → Learn more about our MoMA Partnership
3. We don’t have grades.
We invite maximum risk from our students, and a no-grades policy lets them spread their wings without fear. We also want to build trust between students and faculty, so that their relationship is collegial and life-long. → Read Alumni Reflections
4. All our faculty are working professionals.

5. We optimize for NYC.
We teach select courses in professional studios around New York City, and our fieldtrips introduce students to world-leading organizations. Past venues have included frog Design, Johnson & Johnson, and The New York Times. → Check out field trips and guest lecturers
6. Our theses are like no others.
Our thesis methodology builds design capacity through research and prototyping…but students do not have to choose which design discipline in which to work. Rather, they create signature work in all design disciplines.→ View thesis projects
